Purpose

The committee takes action locally, upon approval of the LWV Board, based on the League's local energy positions and the national (LWVUS) energy positions adopted in 1978 following a two-year study by League members nationwide. Key positions are advocacy of energy efficiency/conservation and renewable energy sources.

LWV Energy Committee researched Action Plans of several U.S. cities which had signed the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. The committee provided this information during meetings with Columbia’s mayor and city manager and urged prompt
implementation of the city’s Climate Protection Agreement (CPA) adopted July 2006.
